Considering the cloud

by listingslab on September 8, 2010

My mate sent me this photo the other day.

hup la. crashing the motor in france

It’s from a few years ago. We were driving through France and somehow managed to stack the car onto the curb on the roundabout. A funny memory, but more interesting was how the photo popped up again. He happened to be looking through his past emails for something in particular concerning a bloke with the same first name as my dad. I’d sent him an email with that picture in from my dad’s email address and pop… up it came.

It made me consider what we’re doing these days. Adding our lives to the cloud. The cloud is the concept that all our data, emails, photos and shit somehow live out there in internet world (called the cloud). It kind of freaks me out a bit. we’re leaving behind us this massive digital record of our life & times…. but for whom? I have this vague notion of a bearded, wild eyed nutter in some kind post-apocolyptic afterlife sitting in front of a screen going through our emails hundreds of years from now shaking his head at our banal mentalness. Then fighting off a 6 foot cockroach with a tire iron.

Little Joshie is walking

by listingslab on September 6, 2010

My little nephew, Josh is such a joy. He was born back around Christmas & was the first offspring produced by my siblings. I just can’t get over how quickly he changes. This was him when he was new and still quite squishy. And on the right (hopefully – if this theme works like I think it does) is the video my sis sent me this evening. He can go no hands too apparently.

Go on son. Get in there & doof about a bit! We’ll have you skiing in no time

Word, dude

June 3, 2010

Buddhism Plain and Simple (Steve Hagen) most of us have lost faith in our ancient storybook versions of the world. With the development of science, many of us have come to see the world as an inconceivably strange, vast, complex, impersonal, multi-dimensional, and perhaps meaningless realm of mind and matter. We may feel forced to [...]
